Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I get started? Start by requesting a free consultation. Ms. Wang will take time to understand your child's goals, school environment, and academic needs before recommending anything. From there, she'll propose a plan tailored specifically to your child.

How quickly can we get started after the consultation? Availability is limited — Ms. Wang works with a select number of students at a time. If there is an opening that fits your family's needs, sessions can typically begin within one to two weeks of the initial consultation.

Sessions & Scheduling

Are sessions in person or virtual? Both options are available. In-person sessions are offered in the West Houston area, with flexible location options depending on the family's needs. Virtual sessions are available regardless of location.

Where do in-person sessions take place? Ms. Wang offers flexible in-person arrangements including the student's home, or another mutually convenient location in the West Houston area.

How are sessions scheduled? Sessions can be scheduled as weekly recurring appointments or on a flexible as-needed basis, depending on the service and the student's goals. Families working on long-term academic coaching or tutoring typically benefit from consistent weekly sessions.

How long is a typical session? Sessions range from 60 to 90 minutes depending on the student's learning plan. The right session length is determined during the consultation and built into the program from the start.

Services & Pricing

What subjects and grade levels do you serve? Ms. Wang specializes in science and math for students in elementary through high school, with particular expertise in middle school science. She also offers academic coaching, homeschool curriculum support, school choice consultations, and STEM enrichment programs for all ages.

Is there a minimum commitment? It depends on the service. School choice consultations and enrichment programs can be standalone engagements. Tutoring and academic coaching are most effective as ongoing commitments — consistent sessions over time produce the best results.

What does tutoring cost? Science and math instruction starts at $150/hour with scope and structure determined during the consultation. Families working with Ms. Wang as a primary educator may benefit from a monthly retainer arrangement.

Package rates are available for individuals, siblings, and small groups. All rates and packages are discussed during the initial consultation based on your child's specific program.

Do you offer discounts for siblings or multiple students? Yes. Families with more than one student are eligible for discounted rates. Reach out during the consultation to discuss options.

Working with Ms. Wang

How is Wang Science Lab different from other tutoring services? Most tutors know their subject. Ms. Wang knows Houston schools. With 16 years of classroom experience at the city's most rigorous private, magnet, and independent schools, she brings firsthand perspective that generic tutoring services simply can't offer. She teaches the content — not just homework help — bringing the same rigor and engagement she brought to Houston's most demanding classrooms. Every program is built around the individual student, not a one-size-fits-all curriculum.

Do you work with students who are struggling, or only high achievers? Both. Ms. Wang works with students who need to catch up as well as those who are ready to accelerate. What matters most is that the student is motivated and the family is committed to the process.

How do you communicate with parents? Ms. Wang maintains open communication with families throughout the engagement, including regular progress updates and adjustments as goals evolve.
